Frequently Asked Questions about Internet Speed Testing
What is the difference between Download, Upload, and Latency?
Download is the rate at which data is received from the internet (streaming, downloading files). Upload is the speed at which data is sent to the internet (video conferencing, cloud backups). Latency is the round-trip response time in milliseconds (ms).
What is Jitter and how does it affect calls and gaming?
Jitter measures the variation in latency over consecutive network packets. High jitter leads to voice distortion, video call stutter, and desync or lag spikes in online games.
Why is Wi-Fi speed often lower than the contracted ISP plan?
Wi-Fi signals are subject to physical obstacles, channel congestion, and radio frequency bottlenecks (especially 2.4 GHz). To achieve 300+ Mbps, use a strong 5 GHz Wi-Fi band or a direct Gigabit Ethernet cable.
Are my test results or IP address tracked?
No. All measurements and historical records remain strictly inside your browser's local storage. MyToolsLab does not transmit or store your speed test results on external database servers.
